She describes in a brilliant way a kind of marginal poetry: the one included in the "Literatura de cordel". Searching either the form or in the content of the latter, she points out its two mains features: a marginated poetry and a street poetry. Although the printed poems in isolated sheets form a chaotic and even to rich conjunct, they are a clear and interesting proof of the Spaniards' taste in the 16th Century and mainly in the 17th. By means of illustrative and amusing examples, we can observe the mixture of genres and subgenres, themes and variations depending on the periods in which this sort of poetry appears. García de Enterría finishes her extraordinary exposition with very clear considerations about the ephemeral and oral characteristics of the poetry of the "Literatura de cordel"

    Get PDF

Nanostructured mesoporous carbons: Tuning texture and surface chemistry

    No full text
Nanostructured mesoporous carbons are widely used in catalysis, adsorption and energy storage. Unlike conventional carbons, the textural properties of nanostructured carbons can be easily adjusted during synthesis. This design of the mesostructure allows to process large molecules by addressing the diffusional limitations/pore blockage which might occur in purely microporous carbon materials. Many synthetic approaches have been reported for the synthesis of mesoporous materials, either with a disordered mesoporosity (carbon gels), or with ordered porous systems (templated carbons). Carbon gels are synthesized by sol-gel processing through the polymerization of hydroxybenzenes and aldehydes. On the other hand, carbons with a periodically arranged mesoporous network can be obtained from the same precursors in the presence of templates, which may be rigid inorganic solids (hard-templating) or supramolecular assemblies (soft-templating). Controlling the surface chemistry is also a critical step in the development of high-performance materials; this can be achieved by doping with heteroatoms and functionalization with surface groups. The design of both texture and surface chemistry allows tuning the properties, thus leading to materials that meet the requirements of the targeted applications. The fundamentals, recent advances and the main challenges related to the preparation of nanostructured mesoporous carbon materials are presented in this review. (c) 2016 Elsevier Lt

Electrochemical storage mechanisms in non-stoichiometric cerium oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotube composites

    No full text
Cerium oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotube composites with different oxide loadings (5-60 wt. %) were prepared by sol-gel deposition of the oxide onto the carbon support. The morphology, texture and surface properties of the prepared materials were studied and correlated with their electrochemical behavior. The different charge storage mechanisms occurring on the surface of the composites were successfully identified by a newly developed electrochemical method, namely the combination of sweep wave voltammetry with deconvolution analysis in 1 M H2SO4. The deposition of moderate oxide loadings (up to 10 wt. %) leads to small and well distributed oxide particles on the nanotubes surface. Therefore, the appearance of defects on the oxide structure is favored, promoting both electronic conduction and faradaic activity. Curiously, cerium oxide loadings above 10 wt. % induce a higher dispersion of the carbon support. This convenient synergism enhances the electroactive area of the composites by increasing molecular diffusion
